Tashkent Club Fire: A Journey Through Uzbekistan Takes an Unexpected Turn

A musical journey through Central Asia moves from landscape and tradition into nightlife, attraction—and sudden danger.

Tashkent Club Fire begins with the mechanical sounds of a silk loom and a distant female chant. From there, the music follows an unseen traveler bicycling through the mountains of Uzbekistan, gradually developing into a complex mixture of Central Asian instruments, rhythms, and contemporary sounds.

The journey eventually reaches the city. A chance encounter with a young woman leads our unseen protagonist into a dance club, and the musical world changes with it. Electronic dance rhythms take over, while sounds from earlier in the journey begin finding their way back into the music.

Then the atmosphere changes again.

Signs of danger emerge, the club catches fire, and the crowd escapes into the street. What began as a journey through landscape, culture, and attraction becomes an increasingly overwhelming soundscape of confusion and disaster. We never learn whether everyone—or even the traveler we've been following—made it out.

The video gives the music a first-person narrative without ever showing us its central character. Landscape, traditional sounds, contemporary nightlife, and the final disaster become different stages of the same evolving musical journey.
