CAUTION: GROOVED PAVEMENT

Caution: Grooved Pavement begins with a late-night drive through a rainstorm, where the sounds of the road gradually become part of the composition. Passing trucks, road noise, and even the rhythm of the windshield wipers merge with an emerging blues organ as funk motifs begin to take shape around the journey.

As the piece develops, the accompanying imagery begins treating the drive like a futuristic automobile advertisement—and the music plays along. A deliberately retro television-commercial theme appears, the funk returns, and an electric-piano lead carries the journey toward a finale in which technology presents a much more perfect road than the imperfect one actually passing beneath the car.

The humor comes from the collision of those worlds: an ordinary, rain-soaked drive transformed by the language of advertising, technology, and musical fantasy. The video changes how the music is heard, while the music changes how the drive is experienced.
