October 23 2026: PREACHING NOVACAIN

Preaching Novacain begins with an intentionally ironic premise: sometimes a little numbness can be your friend. The music turns that idea toward the dance floor, where rhythm, movement, repetition, and the presence of other people can create a temporary bubble from the pressures and noise of the outside world.

Built primarily from electronic drums and synthesizers, the composition develops through a techno- and funk-influenced groove, periodically punctuated by the sound of a soul-style horn section. Rather than using contrasting sections to break the spell, the music deliberately protects the environment it has created. Once the dance takes hold, the piece stays inside it—allowing repetition, evolving textures, and groove to sustain the escape rather than interrupt it.

The result is both playful and purposeful: an ironically enthusiastic argument for occasionally giving ourselves permission to disengage from the world for a while.
